Marketing & Growth Strategies from the experts at Thompson & Rose Marketing.

How We made $10,000 from a 2,500-Name Email List in 2 Days

Let me start by saying there are no shortcuts to good marketing.

But you can get better results and more profits with less work -- if you do things right.

In 2 Days, We Pulled In $9,826 from Less Than 2,500 Email Addresses

Here are the details:

  • 2,482 people on our email list.
  • $97 product.
  • 16% conversion rate on our sales page.

If you've ever tried selling a $100 product, you already know that a 16% conversion rate is almost impossibly awesome.

Here's how we did it.

Step 1 - Create a Long Email Sequence.

Making $9,826 in 2 days doesn't happen overnight.

We built a 13-email sequence that was sent out over the course of about two weeks.

Most of those emails gave people free, useful content to make sure they were engaged in our sequence and excited about reading our emails.

It also helped build credibility so that when we told people they should buy a $97 product, they took us seriously.

Step 2 - Increase the Intensity Over Time.

When writing emails, 99% of people make one of two mistakes:

  1. They don't sell hard enough.
  2. They sell too hard.

In reality, you want an email list that starts off gentle and slowly becomes more aggressive.

In the final email of the 13-email sequence, we painted a grim picture of what life would be like without the product. It was an aggressive sell, but it was effective. Almost half of the total sales happened because of that final email.

Step 3 - Be Honest.

This is especially important when you're pushing your sales with the more aggressive strategies.

Telling people they'll forever regret the day they didn't buy your t-shirt is ridiculous. If you're not honest, people can tell.

Dishonesty often results in high refund rates, too, so don't turn into a melodramatic liar just to make a quick buck.

Step 4 - Create an Informative Sales Page.

A 16% conversion rate is awesome, even if the product doesn't cost $97.

But it's not impossible to achieve the same results (or at least similar results) if you're willing to put in the work.

A big part of this is simply being informative.

We wrote a long sales page (over 2,000 words) that painted a crystal-clear picture of what will happen when someone signs up.

No one reading that sales page could possibly have had any questions about their purchase. If they were interested, they were going to know exactly what they were buying.

If someone isn't sure about your product, they're not going to feel comfortable giving you their money. Create an honest, informative sales page that helps people make a smart decision.

Step 5 - Cut Off the Wrong Customers.

One of the reasons we had such good results is that we didn't try to sell to the wrong people.

Too many businesses spend time and money trying to get customers who are unlikely to ever make a purchase. These include freebie-lovers, window-browsers, and people who don't want to put in the work surrounding the product.

For example, virtually everyone is interested in losing fat and building muscle, but only a small percentage of people actually hit the gym three times a week. (I'm not one of them.)

Marketing to those un-buyers means lower open rates, higher advertising costs, and possibly being labelled a SPAM email account, which means serious losses for your business.
